My name is Matthew Boyer, and I am currently a junior double majoring in Government and Public Policy. Growing up, I had a bit of a hectic life. My mother was in the Navy for eight years and the US Public Health Service for another 12. As such, we spent a lot of time moving. In my short 21 years alive, I have moved ten times plus an evacuation. I was fortunate in that I got to spend some of my formative years growing up in Italy, Egypt, and Kenya!
On-campus and in the community, I have tried to get involved with an array of meaningful activities that keep me happy. To help serve the city I love, I am a Big Brother for Big Brothers Big Sisters America, and I am an incoming camp counselor for Camp Kesem. To help out with local politics, I sit on the neighborhood balance committee tasked with finding out how to make Williamsburg more affordable for everyone. To get out my energy, I play Rugby for the men’s club team. Finally, for as long as I can remember, public speaking has always been a passion of mine. For me, it is a dream come true to share my story on the TEDx stage. I hope to see you there.
